Radon Mitigation Methods
If your home tested high for radon (4.0 pCi/L or above), mitigation is the next step. Learn how certified professionals permanently reduce radon levels by up to 99%.
See How It WorksSub-Slab Depressurization (SSD)
The EPA-recommended "gold standard" for homes with basements or slab-on-grade foundations. This method prevents radon gas from ever entering your home by creating a vacuum beneath the foundation.
How SSD Works (System Diagram)
1. Soil Gas Collection
Radon gas naturally builds up in the soil beneath your foundation.
2. Suction Point
A hole is cored through the basement slab to access the soil gas directly.
3. Radon Fan
A specialized continuous-duty fan pulls the radon gas out from under the slab.
4. Safe Exhaust
The gas is safely vented through PVC piping above the roofline.
Crawl Space Encapsulation
For homes with dirt crawl spaces, sub-membrane depressurization is used. A high-density plastic vapor barrier is sealed over the exposed dirt floor and up the foundation walls.
Once the barrier is perfectly sealed, a fan and pipe system (similar to SSD) is connected to pull radon gas from beneath the plastic and vent it safely outside.
Block-Wall Depressurization
In homes with hollow block foundation walls, radon can travel upward through the block cavities. This method involves depressurizing the void network within the block wall itself.
Often used in conjunction with Sub-Slab Depressurization when the walls are a major contributor to the indoor radon problem.
