What to Expect During a Professional Radon Test

A certified technician arrives at your home to place a continuous radon monitor (CRM). The device is placed in the lowest livable level of your home (usually a basement or first floor). We ensure placement strictly follows EPA protocols—away from drafts, exterior walls, and high humidity areas.

For the test to be accurate, you must maintain "closed-house conditions" starting 12 hours before the test begins and continuing throughout the entire testing period.

• Keep all exterior doors and windows closed (except for normal entry/exit).
• Operate heating and cooling systems normally.
• Do not operate whole-house fans or wood stoves (unless it's your primary heat source).

A standard short-term real estate test takes exactly 48 hours. During this time, our continuous monitor takes hourly readings of radon levels, temperature, barometric pressure, and humidity to ensure the test wasn't tampered with and conditions remained stable.

Once the 48 hours are complete, the technician retrieves the monitor. Because we use digital CRMs, we can often provide your detailed, certified report on the same day. If your levels are at or above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L, we'll guide you through your mitigation options.
